When we were young, what was love?

The twitter trending topic #whenwewereyoung had me reminiscing of the days when I watched Disney Movies every Saturday with my sister and when the highlight of my weekends was the new toy McDonald's Happy Meal was offering, it also reminded me of an email I came across that brought a smile to my face on a rainy Monday morning:

WHAT LOVE MEANS TO AGE 4 TO 8 YEAR OLD CHILDREN

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does 'love' mean?'

This Fabulous set of young kids definitely have this concept down to the tee:

* 'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.'
Rebecca - age 8
_____

*'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' (aww cuties)
Billy - age 4
_____

*'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.' (I was never really a sniffer)
Karl - age 5
_____

*'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.' (I guess, I'm not one for sharing)
Chrissy - age 6
_____

*'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.'
Terri - age 4
_____

*'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.'
Danny - age 7
_____

*'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss'
Emily - age 8
_____

*'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.' (3 snaps...deep)
Bobby - age 7
_____

*'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,'
Nikka - age 6
_____

*'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.'
Noelle - age 7
_____

*'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.'
Tommy - age 6
_____

*'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore'
Cindy - age 8
_____

*'My mommy loves me more than anybody You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.'
Clare - age 6
_____

*'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'
Elaine-age 5
_____

*'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford..' (He was a cutie back in the day)
Chris - age 7
_____

*'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day'
Mary Ann - age 4
_____

*'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.' (Hand-me-downs huh? I wish my sisters were more appreciative, I told yall it's because I love you)
Lauren - age 4
_____

*'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars
come out of you.'
Karen - age 7
_____

*'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you
mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.'
Jessica - age 8
_____

*And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about
a contest he was asked to judge..

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an
elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's
yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy
said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry'
_____

When there is nothing left, that is when you find out that love is all you need.

God is Love.

"GREEN CARPET EXPTRAVAGANZA (Naija at 49)

Saturday October 3rd, no Nigerian East Coaster should have been home bored. If you were, slap yourself! The most popular Nigerian Independence event on the East Coast was the "GREEN CARPET EXTRAVAGANZA", produced by QRIOUS Media Group and INCOGNITO in New York City.

This collaborative affair gained a lot of publicity from supporters and haters alike. Hosted by WALE (the Nigerian rapper that features Lady Gaga on his hit single "Chillin") at the luxurious Club BLVD, the star studded event featured special guests like Naija Boyz (Olatoye & Teju Komolafe), The Contender Hollywood HINO, AiRis, Chief Capo and Kemistry. DJ OBI of AJ Entertainment provided the music.

This event created a FAB splash with guests rolling in from the entire tri-state area (NJ,PA,CT), North Carolina, California, The DMV region, Houston, Atlanta and even Alaska!

Now for those of you who are accustomed to arriving fashionably late to an event at 2am, you were totally out of luck. A long and curling line was in effect as early as 11pm, with anxious, well dressed people ready to have a great time and celebrate with the elite of the Nigerian East Coast Community. At 12am, the huge venue was at legal capacity and all tables were sold out. The security clicker count of total guests that were lucky enough to gain entrance to this fabulous soiree was 1109, while an estimated 300 were stuck outside (Early arrival was HIGHLY advised!!!!).

FAB was there on time to witness all the fun and join in the festivities which featured live performances by AiRis (Without You)and Chief Capo (My City). The drinks were flowing all nite long and I'm proud to mention that no fights broke out!

A better night couldn't be asked for. For all those that missed out this year, you were warned in advance to show up and show ON TIME (11pm).. The "GREEN CARPET EXTRAVAGANZA", commemorating Nigeria's Independence is an annual culture and the 50th Independence Anniversary event on Saturday October 2nd 2010 promises to be the biggest Nigerian nightlife event ever! Book your flights to New York in advance and stay tuned to FAB for more info!

Kudos to QRIOUS Media Group and INCOGNITO for producing such a classicly fabulous event and special thanks to them for granting FAB all-access!

Stay FAB yall!

Annual New York Nigerian Independence Day Parade

This past weekend was the 49th Nigerian Independence Day Celebration. New York hosted the annual Independence Day Parade, RAIN or SHINE, and the weather was definitely not Shining fabulously, however with all the love and pride we have for Nigeria the parade was a success. Various floats paraded the streets, including one with this years newly crowned Miss Nigerian Independence Feyisola Ogunfemi.

Guest performers included Serani (who is supposedly Nigerian but raised in Jamaica, still waiting on valid confirmation of this), rapper Wale (he's on Lady Gaga's remix) and many other wonderful guests, speakers and dancers who all are connected due to the immense love we have for our country, Nigeria.

Despite the torrential down pour earlier on in the day, the weather cleared up and all the fabulous East Coast Ladies and Gentlemen came out of hiding and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon meeting fellow nigerians, dancing and eating plenty of suya!!!!
