East Coast Cruising

It's that time of the year again; the sun is shining, the sky is blue, the seas are calm and the annual Polka Dot Cruise has returned and is docked on the East Coast.

Saturday June 5th New York's 11:11 entertainment and N Unite will be hosting their 2nd annual boat party in New York City boarding at 12 am! For those of you who missed out last year; this event is a FAB way to kick off your event filled Summer. With DJ SiSi (in my mind), DJ-El G, DJ Afoo, DJ Spynfo and Mr Young'n on the 1's and 2's all night, why wouldnt you board the ship with me?

Hosted the weekend after memorial day weekend it is in your best interest to book tickets now before they run out, this is NOT your typical overcrowded hall party, once all the tickets are sold, it is what it is! The maximum capacity was created for a reason...I'm not trying to sink sorry!

For booking information please contact Seyi at 917-657-7255 or visit the event link at Polka Dot Cruise 2

Summer is officially on the horizon and honestly in-land partying is so last season, hope to see you all there. *I'll be the lady in the black and white ;-)*

Stay FAB dolls.

I am, Because you are.

This past weekend, Sunday May 16, New York City hosted the 25th annual Annual Aids Walk. Thousands came out to support for personal reasons or just to support a good cause. This 6.2 mile walk began Saturday morning at 10 am with an opening ceremony featuring Jill from the Real Housewives of New York.

Seeing the thousands of people that came out both old and young, big and small, black and white, gay and straight; really makes one realize that HIV/AIDS affects everyone, despite common misconceptions, this is a disease the doesn't discriminate and has become a Global epidemic.

Recent postings on twitter has made me realize how ignorant our society has become; in order to combat HIV/AIDS we need a multilevel, multifaceted approach that not only focuses on the distribution of free condoms but also encompasses prevention tactics in the many forms of transmission; these include intravenous drug use and mother to child transmission. In order to curtail the transmission of HIV/AIDS it is important to KNOW YOUR STATUS! Get tested, there are testing sites all over the world, if you would like to know a testing site located in your area contact your local health provider, or you may contact us as SiSiAbebi@Gmail.com (information regarding anyone contacting FAB will remain confidential in accordance with the HIPAA health laws).

So, we have walked, the question now is what next? The health infrastructure in African countries such as Nigeria needs to be improved in regards to ambulatory services and preventative health services. It is important that civilians know that THERE IS TREATMENT! HIV is no longer a death sentence, therapeutics are now available to prevent mother to child transmission, but in order to benefit from this you must KNOW YOUR STATUS!

So, what are you waiting for? Get TESTED, Donate money and resources to research facilities and health clinics, Spread the word. TOGETHER we CAN combat this disease.  Let's not turn our backs on something that is affecting us all "I am, Because you are."

Stay FAB dolls,

SiSi

FELA on Broadway

For those of you following me on twitter, you would know that this weekend I was super excited to be blessed with the opportunity to see FELA on Broadway. Words cannot justify such a great experience as I sat in awe at the 'Shrine' and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti (played by Sahr Ngaujah) took us through the life journey of the 'Black President'.

Set in Lagos, Nigeria in the late 1970's 'Fela' and his 'Queens' take us on the search for true African Style as they give birth to the musical genre Afrobeat.

As much as I could sit here and tell you all how great the performance was, it really is something you need to experience for yourself (plus I wouldn't want to be the one to ruin any surprises for you)! This interactive performance centered around Fela's last performance at the shrine is FAB in all aspects and with an all star cast, an engaging set design, beautiful wardrobes, a talented ensemble and excellent choreography, FELA is a must see for all my FAB readers!

FAB applauds all those who participated in putting together such a great performance including but not limited to Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

To all my US FAB readers I strongly suggest picking up those tickets so that you too can "simmer with people talking politics, drinking, smoking igbo and dancing, all to the beat of endless waves of soul-catching, heart-pounding music. WELCOME NA DE SHRINE!"

Stay FAB!
