Rebuilding Nigeria One Village At A Time

What better way to spend a Summer Saturday afternoon than at the park enjoying the sun, good food, music and games all while raising money for a good cause. This past weekend ReNOVATE which is an acronym for "Rebuilding Nigeria One Village at a Time" hosted their first annual fund raising picnic at Briant Park, New Jersey.

Founded by young men and women within the United States and Nigeria, ReNOVATE plans to educate communities, provide them with the necessary resources and materials to improve their living conditions, and campaign for the need of an improved health infrastructure in Nigeria all with the goal to mobilize communities and improve the daily living conditions in rural Nigeria especially in regards to health, poverty and social issues.

With the advancement of health care in the Western World ReNOVATE has recognized the need for change within Nigeria's Health Infrastructure in order to take full advantage of the progress of public health over the past five decades. Community involvement and mobilization through education is a necessary step to promoting the importance of primary prevention health measures such as malaria vaccinations and medication to curtail mother-to-child HIV transmission. With the constant threat of looming epidemics due to emerging infectious and chronic diseases it is clear that we are all responsible for ensuring the equal distribution of health resources especially with the increasingly rapid rate of disease transmission due in part to our highly dynamic population.

With a highly skilled and motivated team, ReNOVATE reminds us all of the importance of making all of those degrees we have attained mean something more than a multitude of letters following our last names. FAB supports ReNOVATE as they embark on this journey to "be the change we wish to see in the world" (Gandhi).
