Holiday FAB!!!

FABulous readers,

I know some of you have been wondering why FAB has been quiet!?!? Well it's all been for a great cause I assure you! The past few months have been spent planning a special event for my close friends and family here on the East Coast. This new tradition namely; 'SiSi's Christmas Dinner Party and Gift Drive' is an opportunity for everyone to get dolled up and enjoy an evening with friends and family all in the holiday spirit of giving. I am happy to say that we had a magical evening; celebrating the holiday season with food, drinks, music and of course lots of gifts!!! The Gift Drive is in support of the children at Bristol Myers Squibb Children's hospital, allowing us to share our holiday joy with some of the children and families served by the hospital who otherwise may not have the opportunity to uphold some of their holiday traditions this Christmas.

Guests enjoyed an everflowing supply of chocolate and wine all evening while the fabulous Il Ripasso served an amazing dinner. With DJ Chase White providing the entertainment and Mrs Abiola Saba of Timeless Impacts serving as the MC, it was truly a wonderful evening!

A special thanks to my fabulous guests for making the evening such a success! BMSCH thanks you for the amount of time, thought and effort all of you put into preparing so many beautiful gifts!

FAB readers; have a happy and blessed holiday season!!! See you all next year & remember, 'Tis the season for joy and laughter; give AND love with an open heart.

**Hope you enjoy a few pictures from our magical evening**

And the 2011 Miss Universe is....Flawlessly FAB!

The 2011 Miss Universe Pageant Winner, Miss Angola; strikes attention not only because of her effortless beauty but also because this is the first time in 12 years that an African Beauty Queen has been crowned Miss Universe ( Previous winner was in 1999 Miss Botswana, Mpule Kwelagobe).

As the Miss Universe 60th title holder, Leila Lopes' platform includes; HIV, children living in poverty and protecting the elderly. Based on beauty, grace, character and humlity, Leila Lopes won the hearts of judges, the audience and fellow competitiors with her smile, friendliness and admirable responses to interview questions. When asked about what physical trait she would change if she could. She responded;
“Thank God I’m very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn’t change a thing, I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life.”

It is great to see a positive role model with inner and outer beauty that can hopefully through her work remind us of the grace we are all capable of exhibiting even while living among the constant turmoil of social injustice sometimes stemming from issues such as skin tone (lighter Vs. darker) that seem to consume the best in us.

In remotely insignificant news, I'd love to see what the #TeamDarkSkin & #TeamLightSkin followers have to say about this. <-- I literally SMH everytime I see these groups pop up!

Rent It, Don't Buy it!

Despite the current Hurricane Irene hooplah, I'm sure some of you out there are sadly counting down your Summer days and preparing for the beginning of a new Semester!!!

As much as I love living the fabulous life, I also pride myself in the ability to stretch a dollar, and as many will agree the prices of text books nowadays really don't help the cause. Hearing about a credible textbook rental service on abc news last year, sparked some interest in me, which led me to experiment with this alternative option (couldn't suggest it until I could vouche for it). One word; Amazing! Chegg may just be the answer to the prayers of many students!

This service allows you to rent your books for the semester as opposed to purchasing from your school's overpriced book store! They even provide you with packaging material and the shipping label to return the book at the end of the semester. After using the service a few times, I was highly impressed by their amazing customer service team, who despite my procrastination (hangs head in shame), shipped my books to me on time. Plus, they sent me a new version at no additional cost when there were issues with an older edition of one of my books!

So, if you're looking for a FAB way to save some money AND would love to help the environment (Chegg plants a tree with every new rental) go ahead and visit http://www.chegg.com/

Don' Jazzy FAB- Oliver Twist

In true Naija fashion, Don Jazzy has been sharing his production skills with fans this summer raising excitement on twitter(@DONJAZZY), facebook and of course youtube. Following the signing of Don Jazzy and D'banj with Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music Records, the well known producer in Nondulling FABness has involved his fans in his success by creating fun video competitions. A few weeks ago I'm sure many of you became atuned to the eclectic beat of Enigma which resulted in the submission of thousands of videos with artists freestyling to the beat in order to compete. The winner of the Enigma competition (annouced a few days ago) was IBK Spaceshipboi (I have a dream) who received 13,214 votes (38%)Listen here at notjustok

After observing the success of this competition, Don Jazzy and D'banj released single, Oliver Twist that has a beat that can have one dancing for hours! Within hours of opening up this competition, videos are already flowing in with dancers, comedians and extremely entertaining people submitting their own version of the 'oliver twist'

(The Mo'Hits Team cracks me up!!)

The instructions are simple:
1. Download the song at Mo'hits Records
2. Do your own version of the Oliver Twist
3. Post it on Youtube
4. Email the link to oliver@mohitsrecords.com
5. Entertain us!

FAB wishes all competitors the best of luck and thank you for the entertainment ;)

Duncan Daniels Signs to Artist Makers/Streamline/Interscope Records!

August 15, 2011 wasn't just a day before his birthday but also a great accomplishment for producer, songwriter and artist Duncan Daniels. Founder of Dunkishrock Production, Daniels is the newest member under Artist Makers/Streamline/Interscope Records production team. Signing at their New York Law office, Daniels will be producing hits for artists on the Artist Makers/Streamline/Interscope Production Camp such as the well-known group Mindless Behavior. The Berklee College of Music alumnus who has also been nominated for an NEA award is elated to take this step in establishing himself as a world renowned producer. Drawing his inspiration from legends such as Michael Jackson, Queen, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Bonnie Tyler and Bon Jovi; Daniels has had a love for music since the tender age of 2 during which he was mesmerized by MJ’s thriller. By the age of 9 Daniels had learnt to play the keyboard, clarifying that his talents would take him beyond his own imagination. Recognized for his production style which is often assimilated with the Black Eyed Peas sound, Daniels ability to cross multiple genres has attracted attention from key hitters within the industry since December of 2010, when discussions for a possible contract with Artist Makers under the umbrella of streamline/Interscope Records were initiated. Staying focused on his goals and allowing himself to be exposed to multiple music genres and styles, he has evolved over the years and attributes his current success to his foresight, knowing that his hard work, consistency and patience would eventually pay off. Taking a leap of faith early in the year by quitting his job in Boston and relocating to New York; he admits that he has been humbled by this process during which he learnt who his friends are, the love and appreciation he has for his fan base and ultimately how strong of an individual he is. In offering words of advice to upcoming musicians, Daniels stresses the importance of being humble enough to remain a loyal student to life and to the craft so as to enable ones dreams and passion to come to fruition without being hampered by the constraints of pride and ignorance. Daniels appreciates this opportunity and hopes to one day work with artists and producers such as Eminem, Dr Dre, Lady Gaga, Willow Smith and Kanye West to name a few. With a good ear for great music and talent, Daniels is excited to bring his creativity and unique sounds to the forefront of the music sector.

ReNOVATE Malaria Charity Gala

Motivational and Inspiring are only 2 words that can begin to describe the ReNOVATE Gala hosted in Newark NJ this past weekend. With literally a full house of motivational speakers, performers, models, agents for social change, pageant queens, young professionals and avid networkers, the call for support for ReNOVATE's Malaria Initiative is clearly not falling upon deafened ears.

Based on their 2010-2011 needs assessment ReNOVATE (Rebuilding Nigeria One Village At a Time) has been charged with the mission to implement a Malaria Initiative in Oshun State Nigeria. Through mobilizing local communities towards the incorporation of a solid education plan targeting appropriate prevention methods, the provision of 400 bednets and 400 malaria repellents and the implementation of a mentorship program, ReNOVATE seeks to break the cycle of this epidemic that is currently claiming the lives of 250,000 children under the age of 5 annually. The overarching goal of such intervention methods is to empower the people within the communities of Oshun State in order to sustain intervention efforts that can eventually be replicated in neighboring communities.

The ReNOVATE Malaria Gala not only served as a successful fundraising event for this initiative, but it also served as an opportunity for motivational speakers and foundation leaders to shed light on the need for assistance within Africa and also on the many ways in which individuals can make a difference in the lives of others.

With attendees coming from Atlanta, Miami, Maryland, New York and of course New Jersey, the gala presented an opportunity for people to discuss their role and duty to the beautiful continent of Africa while enjoying performances from various dance groups & musical talents and while partaking in a 'not-so-silent' silent auction ;).

This was truly a fabulous evening with beautiful people. FAB continues to support the wonderful work of the ReNOVATE team and their mission to Rebuild Nigeria One Village At a Time.

**Special thanks to my twitter lovers for picking my outfit choice for the evening ;)**

It's DunkishRockkkkkk

With a hectic summer that seems to be passing faster than anticipated, it's easy to miss out on some of the FABness happening this Summer. With the 6th annual NEA's (Nigerian Entertainment Awards)approaching Naija artists are really bringing their A game this Summer, with recent reports of MoHits and Kanye West's new business relationship it is clear that Nigerian music can no longer be limited to it's usual audience.

Duncan Daniels; music producer, writer and singer is a triple threat when it comes to musical talent. With hit song 'Like This' featuring MI, Daniels; a protege who studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Masachusetes, alma mater to industry folks such as Gavin DeGraw, Keith Harris and John Mayer is one step ahead of the game as he floods the international music waves. An NEA nominee, Duncan Daniels aka Dunkishrock recently relocated to New York from Boston in order to strengthen and broaden his current relationships within the industry as a producer and song writer.

With an ability to produce an array of tunes ranging from mainstream hip hop to soulful ballad's, Daniels has amazed his fans once again with the release of playful summer hit 'Plenty Swagger' feat T2. The team who recently performed in Orlando for the NRC annual reunion wanted to produce a track that is just as fun and laid back as their personalities. Anticipating the realease of the music video, I came across some of Duncan's international fans (shout out to Asia and Europe) who clearly love the song just as much as I do. With a catchy beat and the perfect tempo to throw down some sick moves, I look forward to T2 member and professional choreographer Lexx Ore's work on this video.

For more information on this FAB international star visit http://www.dunkishrock.com and follow him on twitter @Dunkishrock for updates on upcoming shows.

Be sure to visit http://www.nigeriaentawards.com and place your vote for Duncan Daniels, 2011 Best Male Artist Nominee (US)

Window Seat FABness

There comes a moment when you realize what it is you want in life and what is your purpose. It doesn't happen over night but everything that breaks you down, everything that teaches you more about yourself, every battle you have fought; the ones you lost, the ones you won and even the ones that caused you to question every aspect of your life, these moments, each and every one of them culminate and bring you closer to that ah hah moment. You get to that place when you realize that the love you have for self trumps the love that any significant other can offer. It takes a series of seemingly unfortunate but necessary events to arise at such a moment of clarity. It is important to know yourself, you may feel that nobody knows you better than you, but knowing yourself is not one dimensional, you have to step out of self, you have to know the face in the mirror and the face that is seen through the eyes of others.

So how do you initiate that journey to your ah hah moment? Well you make a list, I know that everyone says that making a list is unrealistic, but I'm not talking about that type of list here. I want you to make a list of your fears and inhibitions, in order to fully understand what holds you back from attaining your full potential you have to be able to dig deep and go to that place that nobody voluntarily goes to. You have to open up the pandora box and put it all out there right in front of you, you have to face your fears. You will be amazed at how some of our most unrelated phobias are all related to the bigger picture.

So we face our fears, we take back that power that an outside force has against us. Accepting that you're not perfect, that your fears can and for the most part do get the best of you aides in opening your eyes to the face that others see. Yes people do see your fears, as much as we may try to hide them so not to seem weak, our fears are evident in our actions, our fears speak during those awkward moments of silence and when that smile suddenly disappears our fears take over our facial expressions. You may pride yourself in saying that you do not wear your heart on your sleeve, good for you! But when it comes to your fears, try and cover them up as much as you want but the moment your fears are presented to you by your immediate surroundings and company, the concept known as "calm and collected" goes right out of the window.

So we accept our fears, our weaknesses and our imperfections. We learn to put our better foot forward while aiming to improve our short comings. We learn to accept others for their fears, their weaknesses and their imperfectctions. We learn to see the good in them rather than taking advantage of their limitations. The bible says "and why do you look at the speck in your brothers eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'brother let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the plank in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brothers eye." Luke 6:41-42.

So that moment, my ah hah moment, in that moment of clarity I realized that in order to fulfill my goals, in order to leave a lasting impression on the life of another, I must acknowledge my strengths and my weaknesses. I must realize that life is a journey where the teacher and the student are constantly in transition. And lastly in that moment i realized that as I strive to leave my footprint on this earth I must also acknowledge those around me and my past experiences that have left an imprint in my life.

As Lila Watson says; " if you are here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come here because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together"

Motivational Video FAB (How can they say we are finished, we have just begun)

In a time when the future direction of Nigeria is in the midst of political elections, a time where the youth in many regions have risked so much to let their voice be heard it is great to hear music that really motivates them to keep pushing for a better future for our country. Over the past few months many Nigerian artists, motivational speakers and mentors have stepped it up to relay the importance of taking control of the future of Nigeria. It is great to see that TY Bello has returned to the music scene to bring pride and joy to all those who may be losing hope in the light of much negative tension currently associated with Africa and its 'politics'.

In this beautiful and inspirational song "We are Nigeria", TY Bello's positive message reminds us that "We are the future, we are the dream" embracing the endless possibilities that we are yet to realize. In such trying times globally, it is often easy for our beautiful visions to be undermined simply due to our lack of 'experience'. The beauty of our generation is that we bring new ideas to the table, and although many may have their doubts as to what exactly we are working towards it truly is great to know that we support one another. I hope this song resonates as positively with all of my FAB readers as much as it did with me. Keep flying above boundaries "we have just begun" ;-)

Video FAB!

To all my FAB readers who have followed us from day 1, I'm sure you remember our debut break out artist Cap-B who at the time was preparing to release hit single Hello! During the past few years Cap-B has amazed us with the evolution of his music and his energetic stage presence! For those of you who are yet to see him perform live, keep up with him on twitter http://twitter.com/CapB for upcoming appearances.

After some time in Nigeria, Cap-B is now back on the East Coast debuting his video for Workaholic. With an upbeat tune and a display of his true lyrical talent, Cap-B has people all over twitter and facebook quoting lyrics to this motivational anthem, which is clearly about to be every hard worker's 2011 theme song.

Congratulations to Cap B and YQ with their successful collaboration and we look forward to watching you fellas bring home some awards this year!

Enjoy!!

I love their positive energy!

Sidebar; I can see my FAB dolls and I jamming to this in Central Park at the end of a Cap-B concert, with the whole crowd singing the lyrics...Cap B make it happen ;-)

Video FAB

This morning's video FAB is shining the light on the musical growth of 2 FAB artists who continuously surprise fans with their new projects and the positive development of their musical talent.

Mister West Coast, West Africa, Oluwasaucekibaba himself has just released the video to his beautiful song "Nejei's Song" as he writes his heart out on paper and really lets his fans in, allowing them to see the true love he has for his little girl Neje'i. (I wonder if she'll follow her pops footsteps and fall in love with the mic) FAB applauds Sauce Kid for sharing this beautiful piece and we anticipate the many directions of which he plans to take his lyrical talent.

(This video is just too cute for words; yes I'm having a Daddy's lil girl moment)

The soulful voice of Zaina whose graceful stage presence can silence a crowd into a state of awe as was evident at her NEA 2008 performance, has blessed her fans with a beautiful video to her song "Moving On" FAB applauds Zaina for staying true to herself as she continue to show the music world what it really means to master your craft.

(We see you Cap B ;-) #hello)

I'll give a standing ovation to both of these talents.
